    Position Description

    This role is focused on the facilitation and leadership surrounding Metadata activities in a [insert organization descriptor]. The Sr. Manager of Metadata works collaboratively to provide leadership and direction related to metadata, working with a wide range of internal stakeholders and internal partners. Within the scope of the Metadata Department, the Sr. Manager of Metadata will leverage appropriate methodology and tools to identify, analyze and define a better approach to the technical aspects of ensuring metadata is appropriately captured, categorized, monitored and reported on as well as responsibility for the day to day operations of a mature metadata ecosystem. In addition, this role will manage the process for reaching out to the business, stakeholders, leadership and internal teams, communicating and validating Business Data Element metadata and their components as well as interests and ultimately executing the metadata strategy. This role will also participate in, as well as facilitate parts of the Business Data Definition Workshops, which are workshops designed for the affiliated stakeholders to contribute views and perspectives on the definition, purpose, meaning and use of each given Business Data Element in the scope of the organization. The Sr. Manager of Metadata is the responsible party for facilitating and leading aspects of the business and technical process for intake of physical and logical assets, categorization of Business Data Element capture and input, metadata repository maintenance and development as well as leadership for the technical metadata team.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Must have strong facilitation skills
    •  Leadership and management of medium size technical teams
    •  Very strong leadership skills (must be able to lead technical teams as well as lead teams of business users through the Business Driven Metadata Life-Cycle)
    •  Exposure to Master Data Management, Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Data Profiling,
    • Data Quality, business glossaries and data standards
    • Able to define strategies for metadata legacy capture, availability and reporting from the metadata hub
    •  Ability to manage multiple levels of a metadata management project, including leveraging the
    • metadata architecture, managing multiple metadata projects and mentoring metadata developers.
    •  Knowledge and/or hands-on experience with metadata management tools such as Ab Initio
    • Metadata Hub, IBM’s MetaStage, ASG Rochade, or DAG MetaCenter
    •  Understanding of common Data governance frameworks, Data governance functional and practical implementation experience
    •  Lead technical efforts to configure & customize metadata repositories (Ab Initio Metadata Hub,
    • IBM’s MetaStage, ASG Rochade, or DAG MetaCenter etc.) to accommodate business processes and business stakeholder insights
    •  Enrich metadata systems to extend functionality of the metadata management system
    •  Experienced in master data management strategy, techniques and approaches
    •  Experienced providing leadership in the development of the managed metadata environment
    • (including the process of getting data into the metadata repository), extracting metadata from its sources and programmatically integrating it into a metadata repository
    •  Development of the front end of the Metadata repository, customizations/configurations to
    • appropriately present metadata lineage and attributes to the metadata community
    •  Candidate will possess experience in data modeling and development with DBMS
    •  Conversant with data movement frameworks, methodologies, etc. (ETL, ELT, Web Services)
    •  Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
    •  Experience with Visio, Sharepoint and MS Project
    •  Ability to lead meetings on your own
    •  Prior consulting experience is a plus

    Education and Experience

    •  Bachelor’s degree
    •  MBA or graduate degree is a plus
    •  Insurance or Financial Services is desired
    •  Metadata Management, Data Governance, Data Architecture, Application Architecture and
    • Analytics experience is a must
    •  10+ years experience in a heterogeneous data environment
    •  5+ years experience as a manager of medium sized teams
    •  5+ years experience working with large enterprises
    •  3+ years of experience in Data Management & or Data Governance
